Matured in the traditional style in AMERICAN BOURBON barrels, this whisky is then ‘finished’ in MADEIRA barrels, sourced from the semi-tropical PORTUGUESE island of MADEIRA, hundreds of miles off the coast of north-west Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean. During this second period of maturation, the whisky derives many interesting CHARACTERISTICS specific to the Madeira barrel. With only a limited quantity made available world-wide, the Madeira Finish is part of the first BenRiach ‘Wood Finish Series’, released November 2006. The other ‘finishes’ included in the series are Pedro Ximenez Sherry, Dark Rum and Aged Tawny Port.
Located between the village of Rothes and the town of Elgin, in the North-East of Scotland in the Spey Valley, and built by John Duff in 1898, BenRiach Distillery is renowned for its fine drams. Curiositas is a unique, fresh and peated expression from the using of heavily peated malted barley; a dash of water will unlock the heart of this Speysider.
Kindly please be a wee patient and let it in the glass for 15min! Extremely pleasant, with a spicy nose full of fruity hints and notes of vanilla and tropical fruit. A peppery, sweet palate with toffee and chocolate, a medium aftertaste with fading traces of smoke.
A sweet nose with fresh pear and lychee in perfect balance with sweet tangerine, citrus, toffee, honey, fragrant vanilla, apples, white chocolate and almonds. A spicy and sweet palate with pears, apples and oaky notes, a very long and spicy aftertaste with hints of cocoa and dark chocolate.
The lovers of the Cardhu 12yo can go beyond with the available in very limited quantities and rarely bottled Special Cask Reserve, a bottling from carefully chosen very old oak casks along with younger ones. As a result, each dram maintains the specific elements of Cardhu’s rich character and a unique depth of aromas and flavour.
